I do make Toffee with butter. Because of allergies in the family, I would like to try one of the recipes using margarine. I am wondering if anyone has had success with this? Does it turn out as crunchy? I know it won't be buttery in flavor, but is it good?Has anyone tried the recipes for Nut Toffee that claim to work using margarine?
I've used this recipe before, it was okay, I like it with butter better, but it was still pretty good.
Ingredients for Chocolate Nut Toffee
1/2 cup chopped Pecans
1/2 cup Margarine, melted
3/4 cup Brown Sugar
1 (6 ounce) package Chocolate Chips
Method for making Chocolate Nut Toffee
Spread nuts on bottom of a well-buttered 8X8 pan. Combine margarine and brown sugar in a heavy saucepan and bring to a full boil. Boil for 7 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour mixture over nuts, being sure to cover them all. Scatter chocolate chips over toffee. Cover until chips have softened, then spread evenly. Refrigerate until chocolate has set, turn out on a board and break into bite-sized pieces.Has anyone tried the recipes for Nut Toffee that claim to work using margarine?
the texture is the same, but as you said, the flavor is not the same. try butter flavored crisco. might have a flavor closer than margarine.
