Recipes that do not cost much to make and are simple?

I am trying to stretch the groceries this month, does anyone have any recipies that do not contain alot of expensive ingrediants? I will even take odd ball things that maybe you just make. I am not looking for ghetto gourmet here, just simple things to get by with other then the everyday basics. Thanks!Recipes that do not cost much to make and are simple?
I actually tend to spend about 150 bucks every two week for my husband, myself our 4 year old and a 7 month old. I do buy the basics like chicken, steak, pork and hamburger. I actually found if your not too picky u can get chicken with bones cheaper, simmering steak cheaper and pork %26amp; hamburger are always cheaper. Flyer check though they always put up flyers to get you in the store cause they think you will buy more then what is on the flyer. Do not do this. Write a list go into the store purchase only what you have on the list. Do not isle wander it will get you in big trouble. Always stick to in season fruits. Recipes I would have to say whatever you really feel like. Buy things like canned tomatoes, mushrooms, things like that and just mix it up. Sometimes you can create wonderful things. Be brave but not daring. Always have spices though. For more recipies go to www.cheapcooking.com. Hope I helped.Recipes that do not cost much to make and are simple?
Buttered rice - top with cheese if you want

Melt 2 TBS butter in a saucepan. Saute two cloves chopped garlic. Add 1 cup white rice and saute for a few minutes. Add 1 tsp. salt and 2 cups water (can use broth instead if desired). Bring to a boil. Cover, turn down to a simmer, and simmer 15 - 20 minutes. The water should be all absorbed. Toss rice with 1 TBS more butter and serve. Enjoy

Spread hummus over all of the bagel slices. Layer remaining ingredients to form a sandwich on top of four of the bagel halves and cover with remaining bagel halves to form sandwiches.
Beans and rice, fried rice, polenta, and pasta are three things that got me through my broke-@ss college kid days. I always bought rice, polenta, lentils, beans, and pasta in bulk at the health food store; it's much cheaper than buying prepackaged goods.
How about a pasta bake?? Use short pasta, like penne or rigatoni. Boil however much you need and put into a baking dish. Fry up some onion, bacon pieces %26amp; garlic (or use pancetta instead of bacon - really tasty and only slightly more expensive). Add bacon mix to pasta and pour a jar of pasta sauce and mix everything together. Grate cheese over the top and bake in moderate oven until cheese has melted, and is hot. It is very filling and costs very little.
Being a fringe vegetarian helps the budget. Think vegetables, sauces and breads and you'll be amazed at how much every dollar stretches. :)

Taco Soup- stretches to left overs for lunch's and doesn't cost alot and kids like it also. I make it about every 2 weeks. You can cut these ingredients in half if your family isn't as large as mine.

2 pounds ground beef

2 cups diced onions

2 (15 1/2-ounce) cans pinto beans

1 (15 1/2-ounce) can pink kidney beans

1 (15 1/4-ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained

1 (14 1/2-ounce) can Mexican-style stewed tomatoes

1 (14 1/2-ounce) can diced tomatoes

1 (14 1/2-ounce) can tomatoes with chiles

2 (4 1/2-ounce) cans diced green chiles

1 (4.6-ounce) can black olives, drained and sliced, optional

1/2 cup green olives, sliced, optional

1 (1 1/4-ounce) package taco seasoning mix

1 (1-ounce) package ranch salad dressing mix

Corn chips, for serving

Sour cream, for garnish

Grated cheese, for garnish

Chopped green onions, for garnish

Pickled jalapenos, for garnish

Brown the ground beef and onions in a large skillet; drain the excess fat, then transfer the browned beef and onions to a large slow cooker or a stockpot. Add the beans, corn, tomatoes, green chiles, black olives, green olives, taco seasoning, and ranch dressing mix, and cook in a slow cooker on low for 6 to 8 hours or simmer over low heat for about 1 hour in a pot on the stove. To serve, place a few corn chips in each bowl and ladle soup over them. Top with sour cream, cheese, green onions and jalapenos.
I am a college student who plans on opening a restaurant when I graduate. These recipes are very simple and can stretch. This can make a complete meal or just a one dish meal. Boil a pound of pasta, any type you want, I prefer angel hair. When it's done, strain and rinse in hot water. In a sauce pan pour a generous amount of olive oil that will coat the pasta nicely (4 or 5 tablespoons) and minced garlic. When the garlic is cooked and the olive oil smells sweet, pour the pasta in a large dish and pour the oil/garlic over the pasta and toss. If you want to add things to this try pepper, parmesano reggiano cheese, parsley, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, arugula, or any other vegetables.. If you want a complete meal add grilled or baked chicken of any kind, or a salad, or a vegetable. It's a simple dish that can be very cheap to make. I also like to make paninis. This is as cheap as making a sandwich, just taking it to another level. Hope this helps and sorry if it didn't.
Old italian recipe from my mamma

Pasta Fagioli

500g kidney beans

500g borlotti beans

two sticks clery

one large brown onion

350g bacon

two cloves garlic

chicken stock

little pastas - try risoni

1/8th cabbage

2 tomatoes

parsley

fry onion, bacon, garlic and celery all finely diced, onced browned and soft, add two litres water plus stock powder, bring to boil and throw in half of each beans, cabbage and two tomatoes. boil until soft, add remaining beans and as much pastini as you want. more pastina makes soup go further as it is thicker and more filling. Once pastina is cooked take off heat and add a handful of fresh finely chopped parsley and serve. Lasts for ages in fridge and is very filling and nutritious.

Bon apetitio
