Does it make a difference in the taste or what? Why do some recipes call for you to fry the onions before you put them into the recipe your making?
It does make a difference in some recipes, it depends on the length of cooking time of the recipe. If the onions aren't cooked all the way through before hand, they may not cook fully in the recipe as they won't get hot enough long enough to reach a fully cooked state (I hope that makes as much sense in my words as it does in my head). Also, you can't really sweeten up or ';carmelize'; (basically makes the sugars in the onion turn into caramel) onions properly when mixed with other ingredients that would make the onions wet. You usually want to do this over med heat in a bit of butter/margerine/olive oil (pick one). Be patient but don't burn it either. Why do some recipes call for you to fry the onions before you put them into the recipe your making?
Big difference.
Carmelize the sugars and add a finished taste to the onions.
Yes. It makes the dish more flavorful, especially if you caramelize the onions. I do that when adding onions to various dishes and they are yummy.
It depends on the recipe.
It helps to calmelize the sugar in the onions it takes some of the onion taste out and makes them taste a bit sweeter.
yes makes them tastier and softer like cheese steaks taste good with onions that are fried or on top of green bean cassarole
Frying the onions first changes their texture. It also brings out the sweetness by caramalization.
Frying the onions not only gives them a better taste you can color your sauce with the color of the onions.
yes by sauteeing, and or frying it brings out the natural sugars inthe onion and there by which giving you dish a more better flavor.
taste a raw onion, then taste a cooked one. some recipies wont taste right if the sugars arent first brought out buy lightly cooking them
